On a recent trip to Portland, OR, I took time to visit Mount St Helen's Volcanic Monument on a day that was predicted to be sunny sandwiched between rainy days. I drove around the south side of the volcano to Windy Ridge Observatory. Along the way I saw a view of the mountain that you usually don't see as well as views and objects not usually seen or talked about, including 'The Miner's Car' ruined during the eruption. Lava Canyon was sculpted by lava during the eruption. Meta Lake exists much as it did prior to the eruption because it was covered by a blanket of snow. The further you are from the crater, the more the land has recovered and the less visible the scars are.
