Over One Million People Still Afraid To Sleep Inside - Aftershocks continue in Bohol Philippines
I took a load to food to Buenavista on Saturday. There are hundreds of campsites all around the ruins of the municipal hall. The remote Barangays have received little or no assistance.
On Monday I helped to deliver food and water to a remote barangay in Sagbayan. The people were still harvesting rice to save it. One eldery man that I talked to was piling his newly harvested rice in what was left of his demolished house. He was very thirsty and quickly took the water we had brought. The closest well was 2 miles away.
One mission to the deaf has started building temporary housing with deaf carpenters.
I saw a water truck that was being used to provide water to people on the main road. There were long lines of people trying to get water from the truck.
With so many houses and businesses destroyed it is hard to provide the basic needs to the thousands of poor people in these remote areas.
The main roads out of Tagbilaran to many of these affected towns have been cut or severely damaged. Motorcycle teams of private individuals have been taking dirt roads around the damaged roads to bring food in backpacks.
