Bullying awareness: Your story
Bullied Child: "I Wish I Would've Never Gone to School Today!"
- hhanks, CNN iReport producer
For those reasons, I was reluctant to accept what I heard as face value but it was clear that I was far from misunderstanding the message. As I explored a little further, the next words, delivered in a victimized fashion, were, “They bully me at school!” This is where my heart sank, and I immediately felt myself become numb as I searched for comforting words. It was then I realized our family had become a part of an ever-growing number of households around the world, whose children have been touched by this epidemic.
As I began the journey of helping my daughter recover from the emotional trauma, other children began to surface – children who were not my own but nevertheless needed the support that I could offer. Everyone has something they can contribute to help stop bullying globally. My way of contributing to change was creating “I Will Not Bully Inc.” – a non-profit organization providing educational tools and resources for bullying-prevention. Using my daughter’s 9-words as a creative platform to build upon, I created “The 9-Creed – 9 Virtues to Beat Bullying”. These virtues consist of: Integrity, Forgiveness, Compassion, Completeness, Tolerance, Selflessness, Leadership, Unity & Generosity. These are the fundamentals that are missing from our homes, our schools and our communities.
9 words started this journey and 9 words will complete it! Together, let’s make an impact and build a better bridge that fosters change.
