100 Ways to Travel Better: Your tips
7 Reasons to Put Bangkok on your Travel Bucket List
Tourism in Asia from the west has been slowly on the rise in the 20th century. With many of the same luxuries available on a vacation to somewhere such as Europe at a fraction of the cost offered at a fraction of the cost, this trend makes sense. Historically one of Asia’s mecca hubs, Bangkok, Thailand is one of the hubs for visiting tourists both for its own sake and as a city that a visitor can use as a base to explore the region.
Shopping in Bangkok offers both endless variety and jaw dropping prices. Think not just outdoor market but modern, air-conditioned shopping malls where haggling over prices it not just accepted but encouraged as part of the fun.
2. World Class Cuisine
For those who have seen The Hangover II, there is a glimpse into the rooftop dining of world class cuisine that one can choose from during a formal night out in Bangkok. The restaurant featured in the move is the famous Sky Bar, which boasts being the world’s highest outdoor bar.
3. The Chatuchak Market
Covering a wopping 6.8 hectameters, it is one of the world largest markets with everything from exotic pets, to handmade cloth, antiques, massages and an endless variety of street food to choose from.
4. Medical Tourism
With current talks of health care seemingly stymied in the US, there is a growing amount of people choosing Thailand for dentistry and medical operations. It certainly pays to do your homework ahead of time but opperations are available in Bangkok at a fraction of what they would cost in the West. So much is this trend growing that the Tourism Authority has even recommended a list of vetted clinics on their website.
5. China Towns
It is almost impossible to find a big city lacking it’s Chinese quarter and the China town in Bangkok is one of the most vibrant on earth, full of interesting history and identity. Foodies will find themselves immersed in endless options to try from.
Bangkok has some of the most quirky museums on the planet that are a departure from what one conventionally thinks of when visiting one. There is the Bangkok Corrections Museum in the ruins of an old prison and then of course the Forensic museum which is a collection of body parts and parasite infested organs. Parental discretion is advised for the latter.
7. Luxury that you can afford
Why travel to a country where luxury comes at the cost of breaking our budget? Five star hotels seem to be popping up everywhere in Bangkok and because of so much competition they can be had for a fraction of the cost that such luxury would cost you elsewhere.
For a directory of where to stay, city guides, what do, an event calendar, where to go out, Bangkok Travel is a site founded just this year that employs Bangkok based writers happy to share their insider information with visitors
