Colorado Vs Pittsburg
A unique homecoming in this hockey fan’s fairytale was both the return home to Cole harbor where they played their youth hockey as kids for Colorado’s 2013 first round draft pick, Nathan MacKinnon and eighth year veteran, 1st round overall pick in 2005, Sidney Crosby. With both of the young stars having high NHL expectations, their first meeting together in professional hockey, in the town where they learned to play hockey was a highly anticipated game. Both of their little league coaches were also in attendance. Paul Mason, Sidney Crosby’s pee wee level coach and Jon Greenwood, Nathan Mackinnon pee wee level coach, watched the beginning of what might be a competitive rival in the NHL. Both players went to the same high school as well, Shattuck-ST. Mary’s school in Faribault, Minnesota. Nathan class of ’11 and Crosby class of 03’ Have a good decade between them, but are both likely to be future Hall of Famers.
Crosby had 7 shots on net and juked Nathan Mckinnon nearly off his skates but failed to get the assist on the play. Patrick Roy was proud of his team as he said
"For us, every win is important; this one is very special for us. It's not very often we're going to win in Pittsburgh. They are probably one of the best in the League, and they were moving the puck really well. Your goalie needs to be your best player in every situation, and [Giguere] was our best player."
Giguere earned his second shutout in three starts for Colorado, as the Colorado Avalanche stay atop of Chicago and St Louis in the Centeral Western Division.
