This iReport is part of an assignment:
The written word: Your personal essays
Warning! Your name and your profile might be used by criminal gangs.
On 19 September 2013, Newspapers and television in Thailand brought news of Nigerian Gangs which committing financial crimes. The Highlight of the news is: The Nigerian Gangs use names and profiles of attractive and reliable men as a tool to commit crimes.
Who would have thought that names and profiles on the net can be used to commit a crime, however, it really happens. And it concerns with a man who has at least one profile on the Net, especially—on Wikipedia Site.
The criminals are using their name, their Wikipedia Profile, and their picture to create Facebook account. Then they will send message to many girls with honeyed flattery words. They will flirt with the girls and make relationships through the net, sometime as friend sometimes as a lover. Finally, the criminals will ask for money when girls trust them enough. Sometimes, they promise to marry the girls and ask the girls pay tax for marriage. Many girls are being their victims.
First I heard the news I laughed and thought it was something distant. However, 16 Oct 2013, my mom and my sister received message from a strange guy who looking good name Mr.B. My sister really surprised and she searched the guy’s name in google. She found his profile on Wikipedia.
He is a General of U.S.Army, looking good, and wealth. All right, some girls who dreamt on a good, reliable guy might be fond of those texts. But for me and my sister’s mind, we filled with suspicion. We tried a little search on google again, and then we found the real Mr.B.
The real Mr.B has a warm & loving family. He retired but he is still active. He has profiles on two freelance sites. Then I thought, “What will happen to this guy if the criminals use his name and profile in the worst crime.” I don’t know, I can’t tell if it happens. Then I decided to tell Mr.B. He should know what happens to him before anything get worst.
I sent the message to him via e-mail, tell him everything and sent him many evidences: a link to video clip of famous NEWS broadcasting with the headline of this news, a link to the headline of this news comes from Thailand best-selling newspaper's website, the fake Mr.B Facebook account, and the picture of the message which the criminal sent to my mom and my sister.

Mr.B replied my mail in a day, said he thanked to me and asked me reporting Facebook the fake Mr.B’s account. And then I found that:
It’s really difficult for someone who needed help or report something to Facebook admins. I tried twice and I could not send them my message. I did not understand why Facebook did this complicated system. However, I replied Mr.B I could not report the fake account and gave him a Facebook’s link which he could report himself.
After that, I tried five times to report the fake account but the results were the same. I could not report them. I did not understand their system-- I still don’t. All I had to do is let it be.
However, I have already sent the information to the police site; http://www.tcsd.in.th/ and I hope the police will do their job.
The reason I send this story to ireport is:
I want to send message to readers and hope all of you will be careful for yourself. Your name, your profile, and your pictures may be used in the illegal ways. You should search your name on the net frequently to find that someone using your name and your data in an illegal way or not. If you have a Wikipedia profile, you should create your Facebook account with the real name and real information you wrote on Wiki. You need not use that account but you have to add your friends or your family member who can guarantee your status as friend on Facebook. If you do this, you can report Facebook yourself when this incidence happen to you.
Prevent it today. Don’t wait until it too late.
