Tolerance in the Netherlands at lowest point.
Apparently the United Nation headed by Mrs. Verene Sheperd, member of the United Nation’s Working Group of Experts on People of African descent, have declared that she strongly agrees that the Netherlands should stop Sinterklaas feest. It is her opinion that Zwarte piet, (black Pete) is an insult for the black living in the Netherlands and that it has a linkage to Slavery.
Needless to say if nearly 68 years ago the United Nations was founded to have opinions and put bans on cultural heritage of countries. People can be offended by a lot of cultural and religious feasts, so what’s next? Christmas, Halloween, Carnival, Easter, Valentine’s day, mother’s and father’s day and so on? Because all these feast have some degree of ethnic, religious or other form of racism.
Sinterklaas feest is celebrated not only in the Netherlands but also in the Caribbean on Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire and in Suriname. The Caribbean island do not know what all the fuss is about, it is just a happy time with presents for children.
