    The Painted Hills Unit of the John Day fossil beds is an amazing place to visit. If you have the time to travel through Oregon, you will be treated to the most amazing sites the nation has to offer.
    The fossil beds, and the resulting deep colors, are the result of sediments from an ancient sea floor exposed to the elements. Over time, the minerals within these sediments run and streak with with help of the weather patterns. What you seen in the picture is what you see in person. It really is that colorful.
