CNN Fit Nation: 2014 Triathlon Challenge

    You said I can't I said I Will

Hello my name is Karen Manns I am 44yr old Christian Married Women with two sons. I've been a Police Officer for 22 yrs for BPD. I should be chosen to be a part of the 2014 Fit Nation because I love a challenge and I was told by my Doctor that I would never be able to run again after my second hip replacement. And I love helping and encouraging people. My whole life I have struggled with my weight. I thought that was my biggest struggle. In 2003 I got my first hip replacement. I was very young and knew that I could not allow this to set me back from doing what I wanted to in life. While recovering from my hip replacement I went into a state of depression and gained 30 pounds on top of the weight I was already trying to loose. It took a while but I got through it and lost bout 25 pounds. But I needed to loose so much more. In 2012 my doctor informed me that I had to get another hip replacement. At this time he told me that I would never be able to run again. While recovering from this hip replacement I had a conversation with The Lord and promised him if he got me through this recovery I would loose this weight and I will run again. Well the Doctor said I would not be able to run but I said I will. As of today I have ran one 10k race and five 5k races. I also attempted to run the Baltimore Half Marathon but made it to 10 miles and my legs locked up on me. Next year I will make it. Doing the course of my races I post my achievements on my FB page and I got so many messages on how I encouraged people and question from people who had hip replacements. It was at that moment I knew that I was helping and continued to help people. That is my passion to help and encourage people. Doing the course of my running and having a trainer I have lost a total of 67 pounds and still going. I want to help and encourage so many more and being a part of the 2014 Fit Nation Team will help me accomplish that. And the word TEAM means so much to me.
