    The last cigarette

    My last cigarette...

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Bob Miller made a decision to stop smoking seven years ago. The Easley, South Carolina, resident was at his yearly physical and decided it was time to stop because he knew it wasn’t good for him. Miller was weaning himself off one cigarette each week. After three months, he was down to two cigarettes per day when a coworker said, “You know Bob, there is never a good day to quit smoking is there?" That hit him like a ton of bricks. He smoked his last cigarette and never looked back.
    - zdan, CNN iReport producer

Seven and one half years ago I made a decision to quit smoking... I did not have any health issues going on to lead me in that direction... I just knew it was not good for my health... I really enjoyed smoking so I thought that it would be difficult to stop... During my annual physical with my doctor we decided that I should try Chantix... We veered from the Chantixs plan and developed our own because my doctor felt that the biggest obsticle would be getting rid of the habit side of smoking instead of the addiction to the nicotine... So I started on it and each week I would take away one habit i.e. stop smoking a cigarette when I got up, the next week stop smoking in the car, the next week stop smoking after meals etc... All the time taking my Chantix... After 12 weeks I was down to 2 cigarettes a day and I really did not have that much desire for them... Then a fellow workmate made a profound statement to me she said " You know Bob there is never a good day to quit smoking is there?"... Well that hit me like a ton of bricks because what she said was so true... That is when I smoked my last cigarette and told myself no more... I have now been smoke free for 7 1/2 years... There are still times when I think that I would like a smoke but there is no way that I will do it... I do feel better and definitely smell better...
