Typhoon Haiyan: Your stories
Strong faith that saved nanny's life
Haiyan's force was too strong that she couldnt open her eyes nor hear anything except the howling sounds. She tried to embraced a post inside the house but evenutally had to hid under a steel bed-which was the only thing that separates her from all the coconut trees and things that fell on it.
After Haiyan left, some relatives pulled them out from under the bed like a stick game. Her 2 cows and all 6 except for one pig came back one by one . They were able to eat a little from the canned goods left and were able to share with neighbors whose pets and animals died. They had no water for days, no communication for a week. We had couldnt do anything but silently cry and pray.
My nanny was a very good person, never raised her voiced to anyone, never thought of bad things to anyone. She would even cry when mommy would discipline us. She would eagerly wash our feet even if we were teens and we didnt feel right anymore. She was living simply, she just wanted to earn and save a little, to buy back the small land her father had and eventually manage and retire in this Guiuan province.
Exactly after a week after Haiyan hit the country, we got a message that she was alive. She was able to take the C130 to Manila with only the tore dress she had on. Her wish was to see another sister she has here and us, her " daughters " . God the Almighty has protected her and her relatives. It was both miracle and a reward I believe.
I hope more help will come especially to Guiuan so she can rebuild her house and retire peacefully there. What was left of her house was just the floor tiles. Not even a single piece of wood.
Thank you to all nations and people who helped and who are continue to help the typhoon hit areas. They needed aid badly.
