After Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin Shinawatra was successful from Thaicom Satellite business line by approaching Gen. Soonthorn Kongsompong or “Big George,” the leader of a coup named the National Committee to Maintain Order (NCMO), he started a plan to gain political greatness by building his image and igniting hope for people in the entire country. He tried to build an image of already having been rich so there was no need to corrupt. This was so that he would have an image of a clearly clean and transparent politician stepping up to greatness. However, his path to greatness by paving it through Palangdham party was unsuccessful when there was divisiveness in the party among its leaders and it was entering an era of decline. Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin eventually left Palangdham party to work on another plan. It could not be denied that the reputation of his image at that time was well-known amidst obvious cheering voices from certain media companies. Sem Pringpoungkaew, MD, who gave him the nickname “Black Buffalo Knight,” Pravej Wasi, MD, Senior Citizen, Kanit Na Nakorn, PhD, a former Attorney General and Chairman of the Independent Commission to Investigate and Find Truth for National Reconciliation (ICR), and Kasem Wattanachai, MD, a former Education Minister who is currently a Privy Councilor, all supported him. This was regarded as the origin of Thai Rak Thai with hope and beliefs that he would build a good party when people had a crisis of faith and were tired of the old way of politics. Even Sonthi Limthongkul, the leader of the People’s Alliance for Democracy and the owner of Manager Media conglomerate, supported him in the past when he did not yet know the essence of Thaksin regime. However, the establishment of Thai Rak Thai party with full hope of getting a good party and an option for people and the country was not according to the ideals and expectation among the dignitaries who co-founded it because Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin began to reveal the essence of his true self by using benefits and bargains over various conditions in a variety of ways to attract or buy political parties or groups with an image of ruggedness, brutality, and sewage. This included politicians from Wang Nam Yen group led by Sanau Thienthong who later had a pivotal role in making Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin a Prime Minister; or other groups of politicians led by Nevin Chidchorb and Somsak Thepsutin, till Thai Rak Thai turned into a party herding the most candidates to be affiliated with it in a short time. This paved the way for him to reach the stars and step up to be a Prime Minister for the first time.
