CNN Fit Nation: 2014 Triathlon Challenge

This wannabe wants to be on the team

Hi. My name is Isadelle Mercedes. When I first heard about this opportunity from my sister I immediately thought, “I have to do this. It’s got my name all over it, and I need it.” I’ve never competed in a triathlon before, heck I realized when writing my story that I didn’t even know how to spell it correctly. I thought it was tri-ath-along because you have to do three athletic sports for A LONG time. I like to say I’m athletic and fit but that’s not exactly true anymore. I’ve heard that muscle memory helps especially when jumping back into exercise. It seems my muscles have amnesia because all they seem to remember is sitting in a chair while working and the fetal position as I go to sleep.

I’m the mother of four kids and have a very supportive domestic partner. He’s a man; I'm just scared of commitment, which is a different story. My family is very important to me and though over the years I try to find small ways to make time for myself, what inevitably happens is my wants and needs are replaced by what I want and need for my kids. The challenge specifically say’s “If you're tired of making excuses about your health... stop.” So I’m stopping. As adults we’re all busy with too much to do and too little time to do it. I’m tired of that reality. This is about me. I’m tired of moving my desire and need for exercise and wellness to the bottom of the list. But here’s the kicker, I need help. I need a team. Actually, I think I need this team. Not only would this let me strip away excuses to start something exciting and challenging but it would give me the focus I need to talk through and write out what I’m going through as it happens. That may seem corny to some people but I’ve always found that when I share with others and they give back, that it makes me happy.

I miss the surge of joy and energy that comes from working out but can’t seem to hold on to the motivation to make it a reality. I truly believe the Fit Nation team can change that. I believe it’s time to get consistent with exercise, to reconnect with fitness, and to recommit myself to the inner and fitter version of me. I’m tired of being a wannabe…I just wanna be, and I want to be on this team. So that’s it. I need this to get my groove back, to get into better shape, to have a new experience with other people, a team, all reinvesting in their own health. And if it’s possible to make my booty a little higher and tighter in the process well then bring it on.

As for the sister who first clued me in to this awesome opportunity, she’s my twin, and in case you find yourself wondering if I’m trying to submit two videos…I’m not, Yamille is also trying to get on the Fit Nation team as well. And yes, having twins on the team would be interesting and fun.

    Thank you for your consideration.
