I have been debating with myself over this CNN Assignment for a few days now. To write, or not to write? You see, I stopped watching the news 14 years ago after I had a near death experience and saw the light. My life was very busy and, there was always a big, to-do list. Rarely did I have time to stop and smell the roses. I would work hard and play hard but, it seemed that "TIME" was just flying by too fast! I asked myself many times; "Am I Living Right"? The day after Thanksgiving I awoke early and went to make my coffee. I saw Dr. Espey also up early in the kitchen. We greeted each other, and I said, “Early worm gets the Bird” and Dr. Espey said, “Early Worm gets the shower!” (We had a full house and somebody would be taking a cold shower!) Then I told him about the CNN iReport Assignment and, he said that he also gave up on watching the news. "Really, Why is that”? I asked.Dr. Espey said that it was just too negative. Wow! My sentiments exactly! We discussed this in more detail and both came to the conclusion that after not watching the news in all these years we have not missed a single thing! To summarize our discussion, we concluded that the news of the day was just too depressing, and negative! All the shootings, cold blood murders/slaughters! The economy and its down-ward fate! Unemployment, foreclosure's. Children bullying and beating a classmate on a school bus! And of course the World news that will take you to your knees i,e,. Mexico, Egypt, Syria, etc...And then there are those natural disasters. So Many people left without a home. Many have lost family members. I feel for the little children! I am too fragile! I cannot take so much negativity anymore. The news of the day is “One-Sided”. I really Commend Anderson Cooper for his Hero’s Segment! We need a balance here and Anderson Cooper touched upon it! We need to, “Praise and Commend” the smallest Hero’s, also! You know the ones, those little kids with Great Big Hearts, like my grand-children! (My wife and I are so Blessed) Instead of focusing on all the problems, we need to start focusing on the solutions! We need to stop glorifying the criminals that take the lives of innocent victims! If someone commits murder and takes the life of another human being, that person should be put on an Island and be left to survive on his/her own! Why should society bare the burden? Feed them, shelter them, give them privileges etc...at the cost of over $2,700.00 per day at the expense of tax payers! Watching the news made me feel hopeless. Sometimes it felt like I was living in a dark and cruel world! I have even heard people say, "This is Hell on Earth"! (such a sad mentality) On occasion, I have walked by the television while my wife was watching CNN and I have stopped to see something, only to leave the room when it got to be a bit too much! I must say that CNN does cover the news better than any other news station! CNN is un-beatable when it comes to covering the elections! Anderson Cooper, Erin Burnett and, Anthony Bourdain are welcome in my home anytime! And you too, Piers Morgan and Wolfe Blitzer! You are all Great!Come on CNN, get it together! Change the World News format as we know it!Here is a Suggestion; (This is from that Brain-Storm Session with Dr. Espey). How about looking at the solutions to our local and global problems (via, an open Forum) Like, iReport...It could be iSTP! (That’s CNN's, “i SAVE THE PLANET”! .com) Just a thought! On that note, I would like to say thank you CNN for allowing me to be a part of your iReport Team! I will continue with my simple life, working in my garden and smelling the roses, fishing, golfing, spending time with my precious grand-children, racing on my F1 Simulator, waxing my vehicles, riding my bike, walking in the country with my wife, flying my jet kites, swimming, watching great movies and eating pop corn with my family, camping at the beach, going to visit my family in Egypt and Mexico, writing iReports and, “Thanking God for Another Day”!
