CNN Fit Nation: 2014 Triathlon Challenge
Want to be part of the Tri-be.....but EEEK! NO SMARTPHONE TO VIDEO MYSELF!! Hear that Santa?
I'm a 66-yr-young semi-retired school nurse/psych nurse, married 45 yrs. We were the couple most likely to get married, class of '65! We have 2 wonderful grown sons and 3 incredible grandbabies. I currently am the consulting nurse at a school for children with autism. I also work with nurses who are recovering from addiction, alcoholism, or mental health issues. They are working hard to regain their nursing licenses. Nursing is a very special profession and it has been very good to me and I wanted to 'pay it forward'.
But I digress. My other job is working 2 hrs. a day at my gym (www.bellsbodies.com - had to plug!). This allows me to work out 6 days a week, taking Sundays off - when I walk 3-4 mi. My 'inner athlete' is belatedly waking up, but I really want to shake the bejeebers out of it!!
The good news is that I can bike for miles. The semi-good news is that I can do the dead-man's float....and swim to survive. The not-so-good news is that I have had asthma (ok, and controlled hypertension) for 60 yrs., fairly well controlled. Running has always been a challenge for me. In September, I did a 5K fun mud run. See attached photo of me actually finishing! I duct-taped my inhaler to my chest in my 'bra-ketbook' - just in case! But I need to ramp things up - it's now or never!!
If you select me to be part of the Tri-be, I promise to work my butt-ocks (pronounced like Forrest Gump did) off! This is sort of a bucket list item for me. That, and I want bragging rights at my gym! I want to show them that the old broad can do it!! But when all's said and done, I want to do this for ME!
