Solidarity With Thousands
On August 11, 1919, two men with a vision for a group of strong young men gathered together in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This informal meeting led to the creation of one of the oldest and strongest sports franchises in the history of the United States. The early days of this fledgling football team were unceremonious and comfortable, played in open air stadiums in front of casual observers. However, beginning in 1922, the team was overcome by a long string of troubles that threatened to send them into debt and disaster. This now famous team fought its way back , and with a David vs. Goliath approach, competed with much larger franchises around the country. From these modest and, at times, unsteady beginnings rose a franchise with a loyal and devoted fan base.
The fan base of the Green Bay Packers is devoted to their team. Proudly wearing the team colors, they support this team no matter the outcome of the game. The Packers hold the honor of being the only team in the National Football League today that is owned by stockholders and the Green Bay community. The reason this is possible is because of the solidarity felt by the Packers fans around the country. Fans are loyal and dedicated to this team. Through thick and thin, in sickness and in health, whether rich or poor, the fans will stay by the Packers’ side through the years.
Good years end in triumph, with a championship ring and a trophy, and bad years end in pain and the what ifs of the season. But the steady hand through all of this is the loyalty and solidarity of the fans, no matter what happens on the field. The fan base of the Green Bay Packers doesn’t leave their team on the field; they carry them home.
