Alleged Extrajudicial Killings Still Happen in West Papua

In the recent Facebook post by Free West Papuan Movement, it is reported that a civilian named Edward Apaseray in Yonsu Spari village Depapre, Jayapura was allegedly being brutally tortured and killed by Indonesian Special Police Forces (BRIMOB). This incident occurred on Nov. 29, 2013, after he was accused of being a separatist. Such occurrence took place only two days before the celebration of West Papuan independence from the Dutch Colony. By far, no steps and investigations have been reportedly taken to address this matter. In recent years, the Indonesian military and police have taken severe measures to curb the rising Free West Papuan Movement that claims for right to self-determination and independence from Indonesia. Such movement was formed as the people have been dissatisfied with the possible manipulation of "1969 referendum" that resulted in the annexation of West Papua to Indonesia after it was part of the colony of the Netherlands for centuries.
