My grandson, Devin Patrick Connor BU3 (24) , was killed in a motorcycle accident Oct. 16, 2013. He was a member of the NMCB One unit of the U.S. Navy at the time and very proud to be a Seabee. He served in Afghanistan and Africa along with fellow Seabees whose homeport is Gulfport, Mississippi. Devin was to become a father for the first time, to a little girl just 3 weeks later, Bellany Raine. I want to honor those young men and women who turned out in droves to help Savannah Connor (Devin's wife), my daughter and her husband, (Tim and Josie Connor) and Devin's siblings through this terrible time. NMCB One made sure somebody was always with the family to guide them through the military funeral, provide meals, and stand-by night and day to fulfill their every need. They gained many "sons" from that battalion who still call to be sure the family is OK. Thank You, NMCB One, for being there for Devin during his life and for supporting his family during their grief. From Devin's grandma, I salute the "First and the Finest", NMCB One! Your service is truly recognized as above and beyond the call of duty.
