Quality Controls and Security issues In Online Learning

The advent of online education and the ways through which it has developed and evolved over these years, where on one hand has opened new frontiers and avenues for students all around the world, at the same time has also sparked some novel concerns related to data security as well as student privacy. With new issues and problems emerging in the cyberspace, it is important that the issue of student privacy and other related problems are addressed properly in an effective manner.

In comparison to other countries of the European region, United States has been slow in introducing regulations and reforms through which greater level of data protection and privacy can be offered to students especially when they are enrolled in different universities as well as online institutes. Also, it is also important to mention here that with the recent scandals of data leakage and whistle blowing first by Wikileaks and then by former National Security Agency official Edward Snowden about the appalling and demeaning ways that the US administration employed to conduct surveiollanc3e of global leaders and even conferences has further coerced the Obama administration to hasten ways that can accelerate ways through which greater data protection and privacy to students in all ways can be provided.

However, apart from steps that need to be taken on a governmental level, it is also important to raise awareness among students and on an institutional level regarding the ways through which students can employ ways and strategies through which they can ensure that their personal data and protection is safe and private at all times. It is mainly the online educational sector and universities and institutes providing educational services through the web to students.

It is important that these institutes and educational places providing such services to students are supported with strong technical and support infrastructure through which they can handle and resolve any problems and glitches that they encounter on daily basis. In recent times attempts of hacking and data tracking through illicit as well as immoral means has become common enough. Students who have their personal as well as professional data within the university database must have multiple gatekeepers and must not be accessible to everyone expect people with the proper credentials.

Also, it is important to state here that the technical staff must be well equipped and must have the required tools through which they can keep a track of the different internet protocols that are being used to access a particular profile or account of a student. If any diversion or suspicious location is detected, the student must be notified immediately so that he or she may change his or her credentials in order to avert any possible error or leakage of data.

It is also important to mention here that many of the places and organizations are currently employing means or acquiring services from tools like Axiom, ProctorU as well as others through which they ensure that any kind of data loss is either detected before it can cause any harm to the user in the long run. All they require are some people who are experts in the field of computer science and can handle these problems in an effective manner.
