2013: Your greatest moment
I Failed English Now I'm A #1 Best Selling Author
Or, have you known for a while that you are here to make a difference, leave a legacy or make an impact?
That is what I too knew to be true but sadly, like most people, I was led to believe differently by those who had a smaller vision for my future.
After failing English and being told by my English teacher that I would not amount to much I guess my fondest memories of school was that that I was pretty dumb at English and so eventually I just gave up trying..
So sadly even though I had a love of writing poetry, and many of my friends thought I was very good at it, I did what most people do and I took that feedback on board and stopped writing.
This was to be the first of many people's opinions of my capabilities over the course of my career with each one leaving its mark on my self-confidence and self-belief to be anything more than mediocrity in society.
Then one day my world changed. I gave birth to a little boy who made me see the world a little differently.
Someone who made me go back into my childhood memories into a place where I use to believe anything was possible.
Shortly after that I attended an event that was the door opener to my world of opportunity and I eagerly walked through it.
This person opened my eyes to the possibilities that my knowledge, experiences and story could actually make a personal impact on the world and I was excited.
One of my mentors reignited the passion in me once again.when he opened my eyes to what was possible.
He said "Everyone has a message, a voice and a story that can impact the lives of another human being and by not sharing that story you are doing an injustice to those people whose lives you could change forever".
You see, 9 years ago I made a horrible financial mistake, a mistake that cost me my home, my lifestyle and my dreams.
That was the day my Success Switch turned off.
I stopped believing in myself, I stopped investing in my education and I just gave up on trying to be the best I could be in my lifetime.
Like most people I just started living ground hog day.
Then one day my little boy said to me "Mummy, why won't you let people come and play at our home".
Sadly I could not give him an answer.
I was so embarrassed at how far I had fallen from success that I could not see how my 'self pity' was actually impacting on my own child's aspirations.
How could I as a parent expect my own child to reach for the stars and be the best he can be, if his own mother had given up on her own dreams.
That was the catalyst that flicked my Success Switch back on and got me back out there giving me and my family the life we deserved to live.
When I heard my mentor say to me that day, that we all had a story that could impact another human being's life I knew that I had to share my story.
That story had been going around and around in my head for the last 12 months, but I did not know how to write a book. But I was not going to let that stop me.
So I did the only thing I knew how to do, invest in my education and learn how to write and publish a book.
Within 8 days I had written my very first book 'Your Millionaire Attitude' . And although it was one of the hardest books I have ever had to write in my life.
I wanted to leave my legacy story for my son to let him know that his mother was not a quitter.
I also wanted to help other women who may have had a similar hurdle or an incident that caused them to feel like a failure to get back out there and flick their own Success Switch back on.
Eight weeks after being inspired to write my first book, I published it on Amazon and within 24 hours became a #1 Best Selling Author.
I will be honest, it was one of the most rewarding and emotional experiences of my life.
I remember thinking... if only my English teacher could see me now.
But it wasn't until I received this email in my inbox that I truly understood the power of what my mentor had said on stage that day.
"Pam I am so glad I read
‘Your Millionaire Attitude’ at the time I did. When I received a call from my brother telling me my father had passed away, I found the words in your book the support I needed to think of this situation differently. Thank you for your gift of helping me get through a difficult time in my life."
