    Throat-Burning Air Pollution in Shanghai

Air pollution levels in Shanghai today, 6 December 2013, reached hazardous levels. A level of 301 and over is considered hazardous, with 500 being the maximum on the Air Quality Index. Numbers reached over 600 in some areas of Shanghai. Visibility was so poor that the cityscape across the Huangpu river was invisible. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors, and many of those who did venture outside were seen to be wearing face masks.
