The first time I met Nelson Mandela, in 1990, at the United Nations in New York, I never imagined the privilege I was going to have four years later, when I attended as Deputy Foreign Minister of El Salvador his presidential inauguration. I clearly remember the soft summer breeze at the Parliament Buildings in Pretoria that morning, on May 10th, 1994, when the entire world turned his eyes to freedom and justice in the figure of a man that showed us how to be faithful to his principles.
