Anjelica Huston Flips Switch on Second Annual Venice Sign Holiday Lighting

The historic Venice Sign, first erected over 100 years ago by Abbot Kinney, traded in its standard issue white lights for red-and-green bulbs to mark the beginning of the holiday season with some help from special celebrity guest and longtime Venice resident Academy Award-winning Actress Anjelica Huston ("Prizzi's Honor", "The Addams Family", "Smash") and Los Angeles City Councilmember Mike Bonin. The de facto tree lighting ceremony and street festival was also a "drive" to gather toys at local businesses for the annual Muscle Beach Toy Drive.

Prior to Huston's arrival on stage the crowd gathered on Windward Ave. were treated to holiday tunes from the Venice Symphony Orchestra.

Arriving on stage to cheers and applause donning a Santa hat Huston remarked, "I just have to say, I think one of the best decisions I ever made in my life was coming down to live in Venice 20 years ago. It took me very little time to realize I was safe here in this place everyone said was so dangerous. I felt safer here than in anywhere, than in Beverly Hills behind my gates."

Joining Huston on stage was Councilmember Bonin who used the event as an opportunity to present a certificate of appreciation to the LAPD Pacific Division's Lt. Paula Kreeft for her dedication to the local community.

Huston later thanked the community, "I want to thank you for honoring me and for being so good to me for all these years and for allowing me to be here with you tonight and to celebrate the beauty of our community. Thank you Venice. Thank you all," before adding, "That's it. It's time to pull the switch!"

The culmination of the night's festivities arrived a quarter past 8:00 p.m. when Huston and Bonin flipped the switch illuminating the Venice Sign's new holiday colors for everyone.
