    Ethiopian Orthodox Service

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Photographer ygphoto was visiting Jerusalem with friends when they decided to visit the Ethiopian church next to the city's famous Church of the Holy Sepulchre. "We walked in [and] found ourselves right in the midst of a service, so as a photographer, I started to document [it]," he said. "When we walked out, I approached one of the elders who also invited me to eat with them and asked what was the service about, and he shared the story with me." He found it particularly moving that the elder insisted that Jerusalem was for all, not just their religion. "That was a fresh perspective to hear from someone in Jerusalem, most people I meet there [are] trying to explain why Jerusalem should belong to them," he said. Please note our iReporter made some light adjustments for light and shading in the photographs. His second image was featured as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day for January 13, 2014.

When I visited a so called little Ethiopia in the heart of old city of Jerusalem, one of their elders told me that they commemorate crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which is followed by a long fast after a final meal of that day.

The atmosphere was very interesting, and they invited me to eat with them and be part of their tradition, even if it is for those few hours that i spent with them...

The same elder tried to explain to me that every other religion is trying to have Jerusalem for themselves, but not the Ethiopian Christians, they are part of the global believers in Jesus Christ and believe that we all, must co-exist side by side, even if some of us are not Christians...

That was a fresh perspective to hear from someone in Jerusalem, most people I meet there, trying to explain why Jerusalem should belong to them...
