    AAP: The Laurels of Victory

After a long campaign that took us from Rutgers University, NJ to the outlying constituencies of Delhi, victory is finally ours. The people have responded to our message and provided a strong mandate for AAP. Though we don’t have the numbers to form the government, as opposition in the next Delhi Legislative Assembly, we will continue to work for honest and accountable governance. Improvement of basic public services to Delhi’s slums has been our promise to millions of people and we should work with the minority government to push it to the top of a common agenda. Local Governance, Jan Lokayukta, transparency, internal party democratization, and true power sharing with the people, will be our themes going into the general elections in 2014. Volunteerism has been the core strength of our party and we do hope that the ideal of public service will continue to be the spirit of the party.
Hundreds of volunteers from USA and other countries have brought in the optimism that has strengthened our message of change. When we visited the slums of Sangam Vihar, Metro Vihar, Vishwas Nagar or the forgotten villages of Hamidpur, Tajpur, Khera Khurd, Holambi Kalan in Narela, our immediate response was that the living conditions in these areas can be drastically improved in the first 100 days of the new administration. If we can improve basic public services to these areas in a time-bound manner, then we have lived up to our message of change. AAP NJ Team has scores of volunteers who have made sustained contribution over last one year in terms of team organization, phone campaigns, fund raising, technology support, and disseminating AAP’s message over social media. Some of my co-volunteers who I had the opportunity and privilege to work with include Himanshu, Aman Bhatia, Jayesh Srivastava, Ajit Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Deepak Gupta, Agrawal, Navnit Shukla. This has been a very rewarding journey that took us to the homes of the Aam Aadmi of our country who live and toil from day to day and expect a fair deal in return.
Thank you all for your commitment and selfless service. Attached are pictures from the celebration at the AAP office, New Delhi. The laurels of victory are ours but the work has just begun.
