This iReport is part of an assignment:
Your 'Aha' weight-loss moments
Weighed 600+lbs, I had to do something!
My name Stephen Pagano and I have been struggling with my weight for most of my 25 years of life. As of Sunday (12/08/13), I've lost a total of 277.8 lbs since January 2nd, 2012. I started my weight loss journey at 601.4 lbs. and I currently weigh 323.6lbs. All of my weight loss was accomplished on my own through Weight Watchers, no surgeries, shots, or pills. My ultimate goal is to weigh 180 lbs.
Since I began this weight loss journey, I've totally changed the way I approach food. I am now more open to trying new foods because I realize this is a lifelong process of changing the way I am eating. I still eat what I want, but in much smaller portions. Tracking and measuring food played a significant part in my weight loss journey. I began struggling at 601 lbs., which really made me open my eyes. I would experience daily pains just by walking and breathing, multiple times a day. I even had to start riding the electric cart at grocery stores and that is when it truly hit me, I could not continue living this way anymore. Eventually, I would have become completely immobile. A major thing I missed out on because of my weight was graduating high school. I was mocked and bullied and couldn't fit in a normal sized desk and felt as if I had no place being there, so I dropped out.
Since losing 277.8 lbs, I can walk and ride my bike to the local grocery store and I no longer require an electric cart. I can walk around amusement parks and I am now able to ride all of the roller coasters at Busch Gardens and Sea World. I also leave these amusement park without having any back or feet problems, I am finally living my life! I don’t snore anymore and I have little to no pains related to being obese. I realize I have a long way to go, but I feel like I am on the right path to weight loss success.
I owe most of my weight loss success to what I've learned in the Weight Watchers meetings and the electronic etools they provide on the smartphone and computer. I couldn't have done it without my Weight Watchers leader, the group support, and other Weight Watcher staff members. I realized through this process that I have an amazing amount of self-determination to succeed and when I set a goal, I can accomplish it. This year, with my new found confidence, I took the GED exam and passed on the first try!
