    Blowing Cold in NE Iowa

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Danny Murphy made a photo stop to document the blustery winds and gusting snow on his way home to Hazleton, Iowa, on Dec. 10. “It was a very light and fluffy snow that was being picked up and blown around due to the low moisture content,” he said. Murphy is a self-described “weather geek” and National Weather Service Coop Observer. It was 12F at the time he took these photos, according to his NWS Coop thermometer.

A few pictures that I took along county highway C57 near Amish Blvd or W33. It was on the way home from work on the morning of December 10, 2013. During the evening it was calm, clear and very cold with a temperature of -13F at 8:35 pm the previous evening, then clouds, snow and the wind moved in and picked up the 3" of snow that had fallen on the evening of December 8th and the morning of December 9th. At the time these pictures were taken winds were from the west around 15-20 mph and a temperature of +12F. More snow is expected this evening, maybe another 1"-3". So far, we have received nearly 10" of snow for the season.
