A rain-soaked crowd attends the Mandela Memorial.

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     U.S. iReporter PatKeav412 captured this image of a rain-soaked crowd taking in the scene at the memorial to Nelson Mandela, the late South African president, in Johannesburg Tuesday. "From the moment I left [where I'm staying] to the moment I arrived at the stadium, I heard many Tswona, Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaaners singing and chanting praise for Mandela," he said, referring to the many peoples and languages of South Africa. "It moved me to see such joyous celebration of one's life in the way Africans know best."

I took this picture when I was at the Mandela Memorial service held in Soweto, South Africa. Although it was raining heavily, the crowd was attentive and respectful, and I tried to capture the respect of the South African people in honoring one of their most respected leaders. As well, rain in the South African tradition is a symbol of newness, of life and vitality, leaving many to believe that the rain was a symbol of blessing for Mandela's life.
