Syrian refugees in Bekaa Valley brace for winter storm
- hhanks, CNN iReport producer
More than 2.2 million people have fled to neighboring countries to escape the violence in Syria. Many are living in tented settlements, or poorly-equipped apartments that offer little protection from the cold. The photos show families without shoes, or proper clothing to protect them from the elements.
World Vision has been racing to help as many families as possible ahead of the storm. In Lebanon the organization has been providing vouchers for stoves and fuel and handing out blankets for approximately 25,000 people. In Jordan, World Vision is helping with winter coats and drainage work in Za'atari. And in Syria, 2,000 winter kits with items like socks, rubber boots, blankets and tarps are being handed out.
