When you want to give your kids something *more* -- Beth Engelman

    For story by Kelly Wallace

*Picture of Beth Engelman and son Jackson, a second-grader

    *Family location: Chicago, IL

This year we, along with a bunch of other moms in the neighborhood, adopted a classroom in downtown Chicago. Jackson and I were responsible for getting gifts for one boy and one girl (both second graders like him)

Buying gifts for these kids who asked for shoes, clothes and an Easy Bake Oven meant more to me and Jackson than anything we could buy for ourselves. Jackson loved picking out the clothes and toys for the kids and he felt so happy knowing we were making someone else's holiday special.

We celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas so Jackson typically chooses one Hanukkah and one Christmas gift to donate to Toys for Tots or a similar organization. This year we are collecting all the toys and games he gets from various relatives and putting together a big gift basket that we will auction off at his school's annual fundraiser. Jackson is keeping 2 christmas and 2 hanukkah gifts that he likes and the rest are going into the basket!
