When moms want to give something *more* -- Jen Bosse

Picture: Jen Bosse and her two kids

I know parents that have brought their children to a food shelter on Christmas Day to help serve food or to donate goods. There are some that buy their children three gifts, but ask them to choose three of their own toys to give to a less fortunate child. That way the bulk isn’t building in their home, they’re allowing their child to participate in a societal norm and still teach a valuable lesson about giving to those in need.

I’ve also noticed that gifting experiences rather than items is on an upward trend. Those opting out of stuff and opting in to creating a memory through exploration whether that be to an educational place like a museum or aquarium or simply to an amusement park. Other great ideas for experiences gifting are renting a cabin for a new family getaway, taking a road trip to stop at various national monuments or flying to another country to explore abroad. There are so many ways to gift an experience that can teach, be thoughtful and show the positive of reconnecting with family that are often much more valuable in the long run than a new set of Legos or a Barbie dream house.
