    Deep snow in Sochi

    Winter Olympics

Refuting earlier confusion,Russia's Inter Religion Council prepares vestries for the winter Olympics.
Warm air is possible at Sochi but there would not be disastrous snow.
There will be no problems with snow in the area of Sochi, the host city of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games, as the snow cover at the Krasnaya Polyana weather monitoring station is already 52 centimeters tall, Roman Vilfand, the director of Russia’s Center for Hydrometeorology told reporters Friday.
He recalled that Krasnaya Polyana, the locality where the Olympic competitions in luge, bobsleigh, biathlon, skiing, snowboarding, and ski jumping will be held, does not have any snow at all in a typical situation in December while the elevation of the snow cover in February is about 40 cm.
“Quite naturally, spells of warm air are possible in Sochi but they won’t be disastrous for the snow as deep as this one,” Vilfand said.
He noted the untypically cold weather of zero to five degrees in Sochi over the past few days.
Winter Olympic Games in Sochi open February 7, 2014.
