A Tribute to Osprey Therian, One of Second Life's Greatest Creators Who Died This Week
So I was sad to hear that Vivian has died, I knew at the time of meeting her that she had multiple sclerosis, (and I learned since that she also had cancer); Her energy in SL was amazing for someone with such debilitating illnesses. She said in her SL profile “The great thing about Second Life is that I never have to leave my brain.” and her friends have added “Osprey was created by the prolific Olympia WA artist, Vivian Kendall, on July 6, 2004 and vivaciously inhabited by her until her death on December 9, 2013” Somehow I think Osprey’s vivaciousness inhabited us all whilst in her company, she was a truly remarkable lady.
Her legend will live on as long as Second Life exists, she was the Graphic Designer of a successful and popular game called Combat Cards, along with Game Designer Doc Boffin who also scripted the game with Jaladan Codesmith. Combat Cards is an ingenious SL sword fighting game, using playing cards to score points. We had so much fun playing this and I even had the honour of appearing on one of the cards, many avatars were photographed to make up different decks of cards. Osprey’s avatar, with her tricon hat appeared on one of the cards called ‘Osprey Dive’ and she was very good at the game herself being rarely beaten.
I’m sure Osprey’s friends have many more stories to tell about this great lady. Osprey was unique, there will never be anyone else like her and I am privileged to have met her.
My thoughts are with Vivian’s family and friends at this sad time.
