"AV" Mitchell ~ Bringing Gospel Music To The Streets!!!
Michael “AV” Mitchell spent most of his childhood in St. Francisville, near Baton Rouge, where he went to college and also established his career as an artist.
After reading up on this artist, I realized that we have so much in common. He started out writing poetry and later converting his stanzas into lyrics in order to further express his message. He is a graduate of Southern University A&M College, a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., youth leader, and music minister. His mission is to share the gospel, motivate and uplift, plant hopes and dreams, compel people to come to God, ignite the passion for righteousness, salvation, success, and change throughout the world.
Music today has enhanced, trending to reach all ages, creeds, and generations. Michael has used his pen to hit the stage as a Gospel Rap Artist, bridging the gap between rap/hip hop lovers and the Lord. With a country constantly removing church from school, society, and life, Michael is making sure that the name and reason for our existence is heard in the one thing everyone tunes into, music.
How has being an artist in the music industry treated you?
At this point in my career the music industry has treated me well, because it has motivated me to work harder as an independent artist with limited resources. It's fun being an independently artist because I have total creative control over my projects. I get excited when I see the major moves that some used to be up and coming, but now, mainstream artist are making. They provide me a road map as well as inspiration.
I too am a poet, and have used my poems as lyrics for R & B songs, so I completely understand you as a writer, however, what motivates you to write songs about God but cater to the streets by conveying the message through Rap.
I am motivated to write from the perspective that I do because I see a generation that enjoys and is moved by music, but needs more guidance from God. Many of us wake and go to bed with hip hop, but the music that we listen too may not always encourage a healthy lifestyle. I want people to enjoy the quality of my music and also be able to apply the content of my lyrics to their day to day living and not be worried about the consequences of doing so. To today's youth, music is so much more than entertainment.
Congrats on your 2014 Rhythm of Gospel Award nominations, how has this success changed your path or direction, or just your feeling to what you do.
I heard a man say that, "A man's biggest failure can be his last success." Therefore, achieving a level a success makes me work harder because I don't want this to be the last time in this position. Winston Churchill also said that, "Success is not final and failure is not fatal..." I use the successes to inspire and humble myself knowing that I've accomplished something great, but it was God that gifted me with the ability and he also opened the door of opportunity.
Outside of music, what other industries are you involved in or organizations are you associated with.
I'm a member of Oasis Christian Church in Baton Rouge, La. where I serve as a youth minister and an armor bearer. I also have a nonprofit outreach organization by the name of The VIP Project. The acronym VIP stands for Vision, Identity, and Purpose. These three words are often elaborated on in the body of the speeches that I give when I address schools or any group of individuals who are seeking direction for their lives. The website for my outreach organization is www.TheVIPProject.com.
Why should people support your music, your brand, and join your movement, in 2014
Your Music - People should support my music in 2014 because I’m working hard to bring them the best quality of music as far as sound, creativity, and content that pours out hope from a realistic perspective. My music doesn't sell fake lifestyles, but encourages you to make your dreams come true.
Your Brand - Support my brand in 2014 because it represents a young man who came from nothing, but has a dream of being a light in his neighborhood and city, inspiration to his family, and an example to other young black males from single parent households. I live in Baton Rouge, La where we have recently ranked first in all the worst such as Murder, HIV/AIDS cases, Poor Educational System. The generation needs as much positive influence as possible.
Join My Movement - Join and support my movement because I've been faithful to my craft and this cause for the last 8 plus years. God has blessed me to reach audiences that range from sold out theatres to recreational parks neighborhoods where some people are afraid to go. My music, assignment to deliver my message, and passion for the people is real.
