Christmas coming soon: un presepe vivente (a live crib) in Italy
Christmas is a time of cribs (it. presepe). Italy has a long tradition of representations of the nativity with real characters. One of these I photographed for iReport, organized by an association of volunteers in the health sector. Young boys and girls have played the sacred character of the crib; I photographed them a few moments before going on stage. Next, in front of the door of the Cathedral, the representation has reached its most important moment under the eyes of the bishop and other religious. Meanwhile, as a tradition, sellers of codfish - traditional Italian food for Christmas Eve - present their goods to passers-by which are in search of the last gift before Christmas becomes the past. All photos are taken in Reggio Emilia, the city where I live, on a tepid winter day, three days before Christmas.
