Firefighters escape rooftop through flames as fire erupts

Early Sunday morning Sacramento firefighters responded to the 1500 block of Tessa Avenue for a report of a structure fire. When the first engine arrived the captain reported that they had heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure with homes threatened on both sides. He immediately requested a 2nd Alarm assignment.

One occupant of the home was trapped in the back yard (the major part of the fire was on the back side of the house) and firefighters had to break through the fence to get her out.

The multifamily residence was a total loss and Red Cross responded to assist the victims.

No one was injured, however firefighters had to escape the roof as the fire erupted and flames blew out the second floor window next to their escape ladder as they descended.
