Make Music Winter: A Solstice Celebration
Make Music New York organizes over a dozen musical parades that take place throughout the city - on the summer and winter solstice - the latter which occurred yesterday, December 21, 2013. The performances captured in the video are as follows:
2:30 - 3:15 Parranda Navidena in East Harlem: Los Pleneros de la 21 leads a traditional Puerto Rican parranda, surprising hosts and visitors with festive aguinaldos.
4:00 - 5:30 Love Riot: A Harmonabord Parade from Columbus Circle: Grab your melodica and parade through Times Square with legendary jazz artist Jonathan Batiste.
7:00 - 8:15 Village in Volume from Union Square (north plaza): Join TIGUE's procession for tuned metal pipes and voices inspired by John Cage and Lou Harrison. Download instructions here; pipes will be provided.
On a side note, this December 21 was a tie for the warmest day on record in New York City.
