Float preparation for the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     LloydBrown shot these photos December 23 of the framework for Torrance, California's entry in the New Year's Day Tournament of Roses Parade. He said the Torrance float is sponsored in main part by the American Youth Soccer Organization. According to parade rules, all surfaces of the float framework must be covered in natural materials. Decorating begins December 26.

A little over a year ago I discovered that the City of Torrance, my home for a very long time, was no longer providing funding for Torrance's entry to the annual Rose Parade. At a Chamber of Commerce event I discovered that the Torrance Rose Float Association, that seemed to be made up of a handful of volunteers, was doing all the fundraising so that the City of Torrance could get more international recognition with an award winning float every year. I decided I had to help.

I volunteered articles on my blog and took photographs of their fundraisers. Today I went out to Fiesta Parade Floats in Irwindale to take a look at the progress of Torrance's entry to the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade.

As you can see from the photographs, the floats have just about everything except the flowers. The actual decorating of the floats does not begin until December 26 and must be completed by the night of December 30 as voting is done on December 31,

I came out to photograph the decorating last year and I can assure you, come Thursday there will be loads of people of all ages hanging from scaffolding and even laying under the floats. I will go out again in about a week to get another progress update. I already know it will be crowded.
