Never the "Breaking News" Garbage all around !

India is a country with rich Heritage, one of the earliest civilizations of the World. The remains of Mohenjo daro are the proof of neat planning of the township, the underground covered drains, the separate rooms for toilet, the Great Bath for public use and availability for all. The Epic stories of Ramayan tells us about the Emperor Ram and his Ram Rajya where no dirt or disease was to be found. This is a story.
Fast forward to present India. As soon as I get out of my home the first thing I encounter is garbage. No matter which locality I am living in, I cannot escape garbage and its smell. Piles and plies of garbage are dumped at any convenient corner by all of us, including me. I complain of not having any dustbin around. So, what is the problem? Do we not have any system working for keeping the city clean. Hell yes, we have that in place. What we don't have is supervision and a very faulty system of collecting the garbage. There is almost no recycling of plastics. For recycling, the plastics, metal, perishables need to be segregated. The western and european countries are successfully recycling the plastic wastes into plastic bottles. The innovation is in place successfully working, we just need to learn from them. With innovative machinery in place and a desire to clean up the city, we may save ourselves from a lot of pollution and disease. Mobialisation of Muncipal Corporations is the solution to this garbage problem. Recruit more dedicated workers, have dustbin at every corner, get streets washed at regular intervals, punish residents who throw away garbage at their will. Monetary fine goes a long ways as a deterrent. By taking small steps, the whole picture of the city can change, paper and plastic can be recycled, expenditure on disease will reduce, air will be free of foul smell, most importantly we could be proud of our towns and cities.
So many benefits of getting our cities cleaned up and yet in a democratic country like our's why is that its not happening? Off course because its not a Breaking News....we have learnt to live with it although it disturbs us on a daily basis.
