This iReport is part of an assignment:
    Does marijuana help you?

    A great Option

I am one of the many people who only smoked pot twice in my youth. I'm now 61 and in pretty constant pain from arthritis and joint pain. I try to live with the pain during the day as I can't take aspirin, NSAIDS, etc. due to gastric-bypass surgery. To ease the pain to get to sleep at night, I allow myself on hydrocodone and a sleeping pill. How wonderful would it be if I could take marijuana, it would do the double duty for me of easing the pain and putting me to sleep without narcotic???? It would be great. In addition, I know many who have been able to get off the pills to settle stomachs, take care of anxiety, etc. Critics of medical marijuana constantly harp there are other medications, but yes, and at what cost? Do you think narcotic isn't addictive, or sleeping pills? For me, it would be a God send.

And the critics also fail to realize that the pot that is available today isn't my generation's pot. They can breed out most of the TCP now and it can truly have greater quantities of the numbing effect.

I don't see the difference from alcohol, both can be abused, both can become addictive if overused. But there is a true difference. People who smoke pot tend to stay home, where snacks are at hand. They don't climb in their cars and want to go out and party while they are high, they stay at home, mellow versus "high" on alcohol.

And where do I live? Texas, the most anti"drug" State. The so called moral leaders of this State have left reality, freedom of choice and true liberty in the dust, in favor of their version of a just and moral life. Separation of Church and State, not in Texas.

I have lived in other States, but having been born here, raised here and now choosing to retire here, it's my home. You learn to just "live with" the closed mind set, enjoying the other who don't agree with our illustrious Governor and the other legislators of his ilk.

As long as pot would do as well as hydrocodone and halcion to ease my pain and get me to sleep, you better bet I would buy it. Is NSA going to load me up, probably already have, thankfully the 1st Amendment still means something.
