    Travel snapshots: Embracing winter

    Jökulsárlón, Iceland

Visiting Jökulsárlón, located about five hours outside of Reykjavik, was the highlight of our winter visit to Iceland. This glacial lake borders Vatnajökull National Park and is continuing to grow as the glacier recedes.

After visiting the lake itself, we walked along the short river that carries the icebergs out to sea. Pieces of ice break off from the main icebergs and wash back ashore onto the black sand beach - a truly magical sight!
