A prerequisite to becoming a member of Congress should be the ability to draw a straight line- a line that would connect what you do as a legislator and the result of those actions. Then, American history lessons should also be taught to junior statesmen before taking the oath of Congress. Congress just cut Food Stamps for millions of families. They have blamed these unemployed workers for not being willing to seek a job and do more for themselves. Unemployment benefits weren't extended for millions of Americans either. They now face an uncertain future. Two-hundred and ten Republicans in Congress, who make nearly $175,000 a year, said that poor people should starve to death. Not figuratively. Literally. With the recent vote in the House, Republicans again showcased their disdain and utter indifference to nearly four million Americans who depend on the SNAP program for their weekly survival. " When China was admitted to the World Trade Organization in 2001, tariffs were lowered, and it became very profitable for American companies to relocate production to China’s sweatshops. Millions of American jobs were lost, and those former workers have piled up on the food-stamp rolls: See first chart. And while we have been offshoring jobs, we have been following a policy of mass immigration, bringing in about 1 million legal immigrants per year. It is painfully obvious that our economy has not been able to generate enough jobs for this massive increase in population, and widespread poverty is the result: see second chart. Our policies of offshoring and mass-immigration have been supported by both Republicans and Democrats for decades. Obama has continued both full-steam ahead – even as they pulverize the African-American community. Not that he has a choice. American presidents are only minor functionaries of the Oligarchy that runs this country. " Food Stamp recipients are mostly white. ( a fact you won't find at Fox News) See third chart. http://www.trivisonno.com/food-stamps-charts So when Republicans and FOX News blame President Obama for the massive increase in Food Stamp recipients, they should look closely at their own actions that have exacerbated the poverty and encouraged the ignorance on the subject. Congress should fix the problem they allowed to be created.
