    Disaster Relief Workshop by IFAW after Phailin Cyclone at Odisha

     

    'IFAW-WTI organised 4 days ‘Disaster Relief Workshop' for ERN members at Odisha. Lessons learnt after Phailin cyclone were discussed. Shannon Walajtys of IFAW headed the workshop'-A report by Wildlife Ecologist Navdeep Sood.

     

    A 'Disaster relief workshop' was organised at Phailin cyclone hit state of Odisha. IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) and WTI (Wildlife Trust of India) in association with Odisha Forest Department conducted this four days workshop at Chandaka-Dampara Elephant Sanctuary, near Bhubaneshwar. Shannon Walajtys, Manager, Animal Rescue-Disasters IFAW headed the workshop. Mr. Norm Rosene & Mr.John Marreti of IFAW taught the disaster relief techniques to the participants. The participants were animal rescuers and rehabilitators from all across the country. Friendly competitions were held for the participants. Lessons learnt after the Phailin cyclone were discussed and preperations for future preventions were discussed. Shannon proposed formation working groups for the disaster relief. Mr. NVK Ashraf of WTI explained in detail the rescue and rehabilitation techniques. Various Vets and Disaster Management experts shared their experiences.
