Finishing touches made to Rose Parade Floats

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     See what the floats looked like before they were decorated with natural materials in LloydBrown's previous iReport.
    - rachel8, CNN iReport producer

Last week I filed an iReport on the floats being built at Fiesta Parade Floats (http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1070150); specifically discussing the construction of the entry by the City of Torrance. When I was last there the floats had not been decorated as that does not start until December 26. Monday afternoon I went back out to Irwindale to see the progress as they must be completed decorating by the night of December 30. The first five photos are from there.

Last year the California Cut Flower Commission (CCFC) reached out to me about certified "California Grown" floats; so I contacted them again. This year, California Polytechnic State University's float will be certified Tuesday afternoon as the only "California Grown" float with more than 85% of the flowers used to decorate the float being sourced from California flower farmers. This is an industry that the CCFC reports, "has a $10.3 billion annual impact on the state’s economy and contributes 92 cents of every dollar earned back into the state’s economy."

I would like to thank the CCFC for the access to the tent where their float was being decorated. The last five photos are from there. I have all of the photos up on GotBaddog.com if you would like to see them.
