Why I Cry at Midnight on New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve is filled with bittersweet memories. I remember staying home with my mother while my Daddy’s band, the Smooth Tones, played at a holiday party. We would watch the ball come down together and there would be an excitement in the air. January was such a thrilling month in our house. In a family of four, three of us had birthdays. First was my Dad, then me, then Mom. Then in the 1st week of February, my sister. There were tears of joy and also tears of sadness. No one ever knows what the new year will bring. Only God knows if we will be healthy and live, or if we will perish. Kind of like the Jewish New Year where hopefully our names are written in the book of life. Here’s hoping! Happy New Year!
