For Aafia family another year of false promises passes away
Rulers still reluctant to take efforts for repatriation of Pakistani mother: Fowzia Siddiqui
Karachi, Dec 31: The year 2013 passed as another year of false promises and broken pledges for the family of Pakistani mother Dr Aafia Siddiqui, as the rulers are still reluctant to take solid steps on proper diplomatic forums for the release and repatriation of the daughter of the nation, said Aafia Movement Pakistan leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqui in a message released on the eve of New Year, here Tuesday.
She regretted that the people of Pakistan have been compelled to think that the government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is seemingly no different from the previous regimes in connection with the Aafia issue. She reminded that Mian Nawaz Sharif had taken a bold stance on Dr Aafia issue when he was in opposition, adding; however, after becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan he seems facing immense pressure on this issue on foreign and diplomatic fronts. She was, however, optimistic that the sitting government would find some amicable way to solve this issue susseccfully. She urged the Prime Minister to beware of bureaucratic delaying tactics in this regard and instruct the concerned ministries to redouble their efforts for solution of this issue.
She said the children and ailing mother of Aafia anxiously await her return like the whole Pakistani nation, but the governments of Pakistan and the United States of America have been ignoring their sentiments.
Fowzia Siddiqui said the humanitarian aspect of this issue is being overlooked in both Pakistan and the USA at the governmental level, while the demands of human rights workers across the world for the release of Aafia have been falling on the deaf ears. She reminded that Aafia along with her minor children was kidnapped and trafficked from Pakistan and sold for dollars. She spent agonizing years in illegal and inhuman detention in several torture centers abroad, before she was shifted to the USA and handed a ridiculously long imprisonment on fake and flimsy charges. She said the trial of Dr Aafia would be seen as a classic example of the murder of justice whenever a fair history of the US justice system is written.
Aafia Movement leader regretted that both religious and political parties of Pakistan exploited the name of Aafia for their political gains but did not show loyalty to her cause. She said had the political parties played their due role in connection with the Aafia case, the daughter of the nation would have returned home years back.
The coming March will mark the 11 years of cruel confinement and she announce that if nothing is done than worldwide protest campaign will be launched.
Fowzia Siddiqui greeted the people of Pakistan and the USA, as well as, the human rights activists all over the world on the occasion of New Year and requested them to pray for the early release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
