CNN PRODUCER NOTE     "As an independent contractor and small business owner, we do not have health care covered" through work, says MelissaF. She and her husband have always paid out of pocket for coverage for themselves and their three boys.
    - rachel8, CNN iReport producer

My husband and I feel like we won the lottery. After almost a year without health insurance, we will be covered by Kaiser Permanente starting January 1st. Talk about a way to ring in the New Year!

It would not have been possible without the Affordable Care Act.

It's an incredible feeling after the years of debate right here on CNN iReport to have the right to affordable health insurance.

We could no longer afford our individual family health care through Kaiser. The premium literally broke us. Our sons were a few months without insurance, but got them covered on a program called Healthy Families that ironically didn't cover my husband and I.

It has been stressful not to have insurance, after having it for over 16 years.  I missed my doctors and really didn't know where to go for care. I was lucky to find a local medical center that helped me refill my prescriptions this past year and I had to plea for one more refill to get me through the holidays.

Thank you to everyone who called, wrote, and protested Congress to get ACA passed. I can now rest a little easier. Nothing is ever perfect the first time around and there is lots that will have to be amended or tweaked to work for everyone.

My biggest thanks goes to President Obama who proudly cares and knows that affordable health care is a right for everyone.

    Happy New Year!
