    Chilly start to new year

     

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Ruth Kramer woke up to a steamy sight: steam rising from the waters of Keweenaw Bay on Lake Superior. “The water is steaming because it is still so warm (maybe 35 degrees or so?) relative to the air temperature,” explained the Chassell, Michigan, resident. “We see this almost every year when it gets really cold.” She said the air temperature was 8 below zero when she took this photo on January 1. “We love Lake Superior and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It might be cold, but there are few places more beautiful.”
