Connecting to the Eternal!
Matthew 6:25-29 states: “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."
During his sermon, Jesus Christ revealed to his disciples the importance of connecting to eternity. He illustrated this with the comparison of the dis-connected soul to that of the lilies in the fields. We know how beautiful and glorious these flowers are in their prime, he told us that not even Solomon (in all his splendor) was so arrayed. But these flowers are only there for a season, and then they fade away.
David buttressed this point during one of his prayers, he said in Psalm 144: 4 "man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away".
Thinking deeper on this, Solomon and all wealthy and powerful kings, conquerors, and emperors of all times, despite their conquests, riches and glory; faded away, given rise to newer ones, who equally faded.
But one thing that makes some of these men registered in the hall of eternal fame is their connection to Eternity. Few caught the secret and entered into Eternal covenants with Divinity.
Individuals like Abraham would have been forgotten, and remembered only as a man who wandered off his ancestral land to an unknown place, telling anyone who cares to listen to his numerous tales, that a 'then unknown' entity asked him to leave his father's land, that He would take him to a land which not just him would posses but his seed for ever. Yes, Abram prospered, and was quite famous in his time, if not for any thing else, as the man who dared to venture into the unknown. One thing that however registered his existence on earth for ever was his connection, through covenant to Eternity.
Today, thousands of years after he walked the earth, the name Abraham is recognized in all corners of the earth, as a matter of fact, he is still living in his seeds scattered all over the world.
Mary, an ordinary Jewish girl, was in her home when she encountered a Divine visit. Many would have thought it was just one of those visions of Angels that most religious people encounter, just to keep their faith alive. But somehow, peharps through divine revelation obtained when we spend more time in God's presence, in studying HIS WORD, she caught it. She know that her life would change from that moment from just another devout Jewish woman, to a name that will forever be mentioned. By her response, "be it unto me according to your Word" She yielded to a connection to Eternity. She took it further to say in her prayers ".......behold, from henceforth ALL GENERATIONS SHALL CALL ME BLESSED".Luke 1: 48b. Mary caught the secret, she caught the revelation to attaining Eternity.
What about Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and King David to mention but a few, these great men of their times caught the secret, they know that keeping the covenant relationship with True Divinity, which started with their father Abraham is the secret to attaining eternity.
God reaffirmed his eternal promise to the seed of Abraham when HE swore to David, that his throne will be established forever:"I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant: 'I will establish your descendants for ever, and build your throne for all generations."
The gospel according to the Mathew in the first chapter, took time to trace back and re-connect Jesus's human genealogy not only to king David,.... but to Judah as it was written (in retrospect): The Scepter shall not depart from
JUDAH nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until SHILOH comes” (Gen. 49:10), and to Abraham see Genesis 12:3 and Matt 1: 1.
Let me pause here, and take us back to man's quest for immortality, an adventure that over time lead many great men to perpetual destruction, instead of attaining eternal life.
In their ways, they failed to acknowledge that only a connection to true Divinity can guarantee them that. Some of them were however simply and innocently ignorant of the existence of True Divinity in God due to the level of exposure and access to this knowledge at their time.
Majority, after having attained a certain standard of fame and greatness, in our peculiar human character, wanted more. Somehow they knew that there was more to simply living and conquering domains, territories and great empires. They have always been this deep hunger for something greater than us, which I have come to recognize as the hunger for an intimate relationship with God; as the scripture states in Psalm 42:7 "Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me".
This hunger saw the introduction, and mislead many through the years, into occult as they tried to connect to Divinity. This hunger for a connection to something higher and deeper propelled many into an insatiable quest for protection, greatness, acquiring massive wealth, absolute power and then immortality'. Many however ended up losing it all, many have only their names remembered in history, while their lineage can not be easily traced today. Instead of gaining Eternity or immortality, they lost it all.
To us, in this age and time, we are rather more advantaged than most men of the older generation, for what they traveled to distant places and performed all manner of rituals in an effort to attain, we have at our disposal. Through tutelage in history classes and technological advancement, we know better. Most of all, we are more privileged to learn from their mistakes and their falls. We are opportuned to avoid their pits.
It is now clear to almost Every one that only true connection to the One and only True Divinity, Jehovah-God; can bring us Eternity. As the scriptures states in John 1: 12- 13. "As many as received Him, to them gave HE POWER to become the sons of GOD, even to them that believe on HIS Name; which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God".
Through acceptance and receiving into our lives, Jesus as the Christ, we automatically become his children and entered into the never ending covenant of Abraham, we connect to Divinity and consequently, attained Eternity. Even after we passed on from this sphere of life, as HIS sons, we still live on in HIM and with HIM through all eternity, in a life without end.
God bless us as we make that much awaited re-connection back to God, our source, in whom we all existed and have our being. - shalom!
