    Act Now, It's 2014

At 5:45am when you wake up, you heart and mind is filled with hope and dreams of a good life and future. Your visions are so clear of what you want to achieve and how to get there. Everybody from the beggar at the junction to the CEO employed in a big corporation has dreams that they want to pursue and visions of a better future ahead. You feel ready to face the world and demand what rightfully belongs to you, you are ready to pull the trigger to break the chains and free yourself into the world with limitless opportunities and possibilities. You take a breath, calm yourself and remind your self that it’s the best thing to do and you must pass this test, It’s a risk you are willing to take in pursuit of happiness, and for that you are willing to let go the status Quo. It’s going to be a true Escape from reality like Manchester United and you are exited about it.

At 9: 09am the illusions and dreams of 5:45am start to fade away and reality starts to check in, Too much work to finish, targets to meet, reports to do, deadlines to meet. You remember the bills that need to be paid, the siblings that depend on you, that greedy landlord who wants rent paid by 3rd else you come face to face with his rude agents and auctioneers. You remember the many people in Daadab camp and the IDP’s who wish they had that job and your life as it is now even minus your dreams. You even remember your parents and relatives telling you to work hard in school and get a job in a company and now that you are working in a big company, you have achieved their dreams. I wonder why nobody ever told you to work hard so that you can own a big company and employ others.

As the great Plato taught us in The Allegory of the Cave, we have been tied down and the only thing we have seen all along are the shadows of people passing behind us, Every time we see a shadow we hear a voice but because we have never been allowed to see the actual people, we have over time believed that the shadows are the ones talking and moving on their own. Because we have never known a life beyond a JD, a boss and a Pay slip we have over time believed that all life has to offer. But who is to blame, is it our relatives who encouraged us to work hard in school and get good jobs, is it the education system that taught us how to be perfect employees but not employers, is it our preachers and religious leaders who pray for us to get jobs and promotions but not to own companies or is it the corporate world that makes sure you are fully occupied day after day to the extent of carrying work home such that you never have time to think of pursuing your dreams. To make the matters worse when, you are old and it’s too late to chase those dreams, that the time they throw you out in the cold in the name of retirement and give you enough money to buy yourself a decent coffin.

Is it true that in life we must have the kings and the servants, the rich and the poor, business owners and the employees, the Wealthy entrepreneurs and the Watchmen outside the door protecting the wealth, the Boss and the shoe shiner who makes sure that his shoes looks great as he goes to make the big deals? And if all that is true, then who decides on which side of the coin every person falls. Is it you, is it God, is it Fate, is it Luck, What is it or who it it?. If you can answer that question then you know that the time to act is now.Roll up your sleeve and face 2014.
